IBS Urged to Unleash Their Potential by offering the best Islamic Business Programme

vc visit 2016UUM ONLINE: The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Prof. Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak paid a working visit to the Islamic Business School (IBS), College of Business (COB) recently.

The visit was aimed at providing an opportunity for the staff members of IBS to share ideas as well as discuss current issues and problems directly with the Vice-Chancellor. The staff members of IBS were also presented with the opportunity to ask questions to the Vice-Chancellor.

“This is part of my plan to visit all academic schools in UUM after launching the second phase of UUM Strategic Plan. I would like to take a look at the preparation and arrangement for the next five years after putting the finishing touches on Phase One of UUM Strategic Plan for the year 2011 - 2015,” he said.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor is calling on the denizens of IBS to unleash the potential of Islamic Business programme and become more resolute in promoting and making the Islamic Business programme one of the best academic programme in the university. In addition, he also emphasised on the importance of the mastering the Arabic and English Language among IBS students to ensure that they become more competitive in the job market.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the importance of contributing academic research studies in areas for instance Takaful, Ar-Rahnu, Islamic Banking, Wakaf (endowment) and other related fields.

"Malaysia is seen as a successful Islamic country in terms of implementing the Islamic banking system, Islamic Economics and so on. However, research studies in this field are somewhat limited. As such, efforts to produce writing in the form of case studies need to be intensified," he said.

He added that, cooperation with external parties through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will increase research and consultancy activities. Moreover, publication of research articles in high impact journals should be given high priority. This will certainly support the university agenda in improving our rankings and ratings.

Meanwhile, the Dean of IBS, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nasri Md Hussain presented a briefing on the current development of IBS.

Also present were the Director of the Chancellery, Mr. Ahmad Rasidi Abdullah, Director of Quality Management Institute (IPQ), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah and the Director of Academic Affairs Department, Mr. Mohd Zamri Ahmad.

 

 

Briefing With Drake University

Pada 07 April 2016 (Khamis), Pusat Pengajian Perniagaan Islam (IBS) telah menerima delegasi kerja daripada Drake University, Iowa Amerika Syarikat. Delegasi Drake University diwakili oleh Datuk Noripah Kamso dan Prof Lisa Gardner telah meluangkan masa lebih 2 jam meneroka peluang kerjasama dua hala (bilateral) khususnya dalam bidang kewangan dan perbankan Islam. Di pihak IBS, delegasi diwakili oleh Dekan, Prof. Madya Dr. Muhammad Nasri Md Hussain, Pengarah ISGAIF, Prof. Dr. Rosylin Mohd Yusof, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Hj. Abdul Ghani, Prof Madya Dr. Asmadi Mohamed Naim, Dr. Rosemaliza Ab Rashid, Dr. Selamah Maamor (Ketua Jabatan) dan Dr. Zairy Zainol (Penyelaras Program).

Antara yang disentuh dalam perbincangan dua hala ini termasuk pengalaman dan kepakaran IBS dalam penawaran program kewangan dan perbankan Islam, piawaian dan silibus kursus kewangan Islam serta juga peluang penerokaan antara kedua-dua institusi ini pada masa hadapan dalam bentuk yang lebih konkrit seperti MoU.

Penyelidik IBS Bentang Hasil Kajian di Jeddah

jeddah2IBS ONLINE: Pada 24 Mac 2016, kumpulan penyelidik IBS membentangkan kajian mereka di International Research and Training Institute (IRTI), Islamic Development Bank (IDB). Penyelidikan tersebut merupakan penyelidikan geran antarabangsa tajaan IRTI berjumlah USD20 ribu, diketuai oleh Prof Dr Rosylin Yusof (IBS) dan dianggotai oleh Prof Madya Dr Asmadi Mohamed Naim (IBs), Dr Ahmad Suki (SOC), Prof Dr Nor Hayati Ahmad (IBS) dan beberapa pensyarah daripada UITM, UIAM dan Herriot Watt University UK, Rochester Insitute of Technology Dubai serta wakil IDB.

Penyelidikan tersebut bertajuk: "Indeks sewaan dalam pembiayaan perumahan: Alternative kepada kadar interest". Pembentangan tersebut telah dihadiri oleh para penyelidik IRTI dan wakil-wakil institusi kewangan antaranya Bank Dunia dan bank-bank yang berpusat di Jeddah. Penyelidikan tersebut telah berjaya memberikan dapatan awal ke arah pembinaan "rental index" yang lebih komprehensif. Pengarah Eksekutif IRTI, IDB, Dato Dr. Azmi Omar turut bersemangat dan menghadiri pembentangan tersebut bersama staf-staf kanan IRTI.

Prof Rosylin dalam ulasannya berharap dapatan kajian ini juga dapat dibentangkan di Bank Negara Malaysia kerana BNM agak agresif mencari alternatif ke arah pembangunan kewangan Islam. Pada masa yang sama beliau bersyukur kerana pihak IRTI insyaallah bersetuju untuk mempertimbangkan pemberian geran lanjutan sebanyak USD20 ribu lagi, dan projek penulisan modul sebanyak USD15 ribu. Beliau berharap kejayaan ini dapat meningkatkan KPI UUM terhadap geran antarabangsa.

IBS Staff Receives Certified Qualifications In Islamic Finance (CQIF) In IBFIM 3rd Certifications Award Ceremony

cqifnewsKUALA LUMPUR, April 9 – The recent IBFIM’s 3rd Certification Award Ceremony by Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) at the Mahkota Ballroom, Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur represent another moment of pride for the following academic staff of Islamic Business School (IBS,  UUM) - Aiman Fadzil, Dr. Ahmad Khilmy Abd Rahim, Kalimah Shahidan, Mohd Adib Abd Muin, Munirah Kasim, Dr. Mohd Shahril Ahmad Razimi and Muhammad Fakhirin Che Majid (PhD Student in Islamic Finance). The presentation of Certified Qualification in Islamic Finance (CQIF) was conferred by YABbg Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed.

The CQIF-Wealth Management program is an advancement in terms of knowledge and competency. The program aims to develop experts in Islamic Financial Plan Construction and Professional Responsibilities. Their professionalism can be measured through their ability to advise clients on Islamic wealth management; to apply Shariah compliant wealth management plan; to comply with legal and regulatory framework requirements; as well as to formulate, monitor and review the financial and wealth plan.

The IBFIM’s 3rd Certifications Award Ceremony which was officiated by IBFIM’s Chairman, Dato Sri Zukri Samat and IBFIM’s CEO Dato’ Dr. Adnan Alias involved 1000 talents from the Islamic finance industry and the academia received their industry qualifications.

Developing Interactive Power Point Slides Workshop

powerslideIBS ONLINE: Jawatankuasa Latihan dan Pembangunan Staf IBS telah menganjurkan Bengkel Developing Interactive Power Point Slides pada 8 Mac 2016 (Selasa) . Bengkel yang dikendalikan oleh Prof Zulikha Jamaludin dari Pusat Pengajian Perkomputeran (SOC) UUM itu telah diadakan di Bilik Mesyuarat PPA COB dan dihadiri hampir 20 orang peserta dari kalangan pensyarah dan staf pentadbiran IBS. Bengkel ini bertujuan untuk mendedahkan kaedah dan kemahiran terbaik untuk menghasilkan slide pembentangan power point yang menarik serta bermutu. Rata-rata peserta dari kalangan pensyarah agak teruja dengan tunjuk ajar dan bimbingan dari Prof Zulikha kerana ianya ilmu dan skil yang diterapkan amat berharga dan berguna terutama dalam pengajaran mereka seharian. Kebanyakan peserta berharap agar bengkel seumpama ini dapat diadakan lagi pada masa akan datang.
