UUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur - Cooperation with Islamic countries is important for the Islamic religion to keep growing, especially in the area of Islamic banking and finance, which is needed in the modern Islamic world.

Prof. Dr. Shahimi Mohtar, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), who is performing the duties of the Vice-Chancellor, stated that cooperation in developing a network with Muslim countries throughout the world was critical since both parties may benefit from each other.

According to him, UUM’s readiness to conduct Islamic finance training for all Muslim countries worldwide was welcomed because knowledge in that sector is desperately needed in other Muslim countries.

He stated that initiatives to provide courses on a global scale were critical to elevating the status of Islamic banking and finance.

He mentioned this during the closing ceremony of the Certificate in Advanced Islamic Banking and Finance Executive Programme (CAIBF) for 21 Uzbek participants last week.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Russyani Ismail, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), stated that the Islamic banking and finance training organised by the Islamic Business School (IBS) was the finest start toward establishing cooperation between UUM and Uzbekistan.

"This session is excellent because UUM has 16 schools that can provide information in a variety of fields.

"I would like to suggest that future cooperation with Uzbekistan include research and innovation," she said.

The training programme, which took place from 18 until 28 January 2023 was made possible through collaboration with the Banking and Finance Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan (BFA), which included speakers from the Islamic banking and finance industry such as Badjenid & Partners, the Kedah State Zakat Board (LZNK), Bank Negara Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and a lecturer from the Islamic Business School (IBS).

The training and courses covered both the theory and practise of Islamic banking models, waqf, sharia finance, halal management, halal tourism, Islamic banking regulations, and takaful.
